35 Years of SRLA Memories

This weekend we are celebrating SRLA’s 35th Anniversary at the SRLA Anniversary 15K & 5K. We will be honoring our Alumni and displaying items from the SRLA journey, starting from 1989.

To honor 35 years we are sharing some SRLA Alumni’s favorite moments from their time in the program…

“My favorite memory is running the LAM with my little brother. It was such an emotional day and having my parents there cheering us was special. Running a marathon is very hard, and I don’t think I realized what we did as kids was something quIte REMARKABLE.” - Jessica Mena, SRLA Runner 2002 - 2007, Mulholland Middle School, Reseda High School

“My favorite memories include meeting amazing people that came to become like family. Sharing memories with them and having stories to tell and look back to is an amazing feeling. Another favorite memory is running and seeing my family keeping up with me every 5 miles to cheer me on and make me laugh with their posters and cheers, I’ll never forget watching my little sister excited to see and run with BearSun for half a mile!” - Ibely, SRLA Runner 2018 & 2022, Bethune Middle School and Fremont High School

“The group unity.” - Janya, SRLA Runner 1991 - 1993, Roosevelt High School

“One of my favorite memories was definitely last year at the Pomona Half Marathon. It was really pouring that day, and we weren't sure if the race was still going to happen. Despite everything, we still ran in the rain and even though we were all wet and cold in the end, it was pretty fun experience running in the rain.” - Rebekah, SRLA Runner 2020 - 2023, Franklin High School
